DAEWOO, HYUNDAI NOT TO FOLLOW SUIT

Daewoo Motors and Hyundai Motor India, who are competitors to Maruti Udyog Ltd in the small car segment, have stated that they will not follow the example of Maruti and reduce the prices of their car models. Daewoo says that its pricing is based on realistic rationale of cost factor, consumer aspiration and competitive positioning. The company says that it will not ignore any of these factors and go in for short-term approaches. Hyundai says that Maruti's announcement to reduce prices was an admission that it had an inferior product which was overpriced. (khr)

NFDC GEARS UP FOR OVERSEAS MARKETS

The apex film finance body, National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), plans to boost its publicity and promotion budget to enter the global arena through film exports. The corporation is drawing up plans to repackage works of erstwhile directors for international markets. In 1997-98, NFDC generated Rs162.45 lakh from exports. It has targeted 10-15 percent increase in export revenue in 1998-99. (gsh)

LAKME RELAUNCHES `ORCHIDS' COSMETICS RANGE

Lakme Lever Ltd has reintroduced its Orchids range of cosmetics using European technology adapted to suit Indian conditions. The range consists of two lines - Elementals and Inspirations.
